James Ansell is a music industry professional with nearly two decades of experience across performance, design, and photography.

He started his career as the lead vocalist for the Raleigh, NC-based metal band Casualty, where he performed for four years and shared stages with various national touring acts. During that time, he also filled in vocally for Koch Records artists Within Chaos on the southeast leg of their North American tour after their singer exited the band, and joined Windup Records' Submersed onstage for a special performance of their hit song "Hollow."

In 2009, he shifted focus to behind-the-scenes work, building a career as a graphic artist and photographer. His clients have included bands such as Sevendust, Alter Bridge, Marilyn Manson, Avenged Sevenfold, and others in the rock and metal scenes.

After stepping away from live performance for a period, James returned to the stage in late 2023 after nearly 15 years. He’s teamed up with longtime friend and acoustic musician Doc Perkins to co-found Doc Perkins & The Medicine Men, where he plays lead guitar and provides backing vocals. The group has built a solid regional following over the past few years with a mix of Americana and '90s rock.

In 2024, he launched his solo acoustic journey, performing heartfelt covers of classic rock songs from the '70s, '80s, and '90s.

2026 will mark his return to songwriting and recording as he prepares new music with both Doc Perkins & The Medicine Men, and an original solo record… his first new original material in almost 20 years.
